Wednesday

Today was a busy day at work and my brain is taking the night off to rest and read Eclipse! I got a phone call from a teacher last night about my severly emtionally disturbed student and an upcoming 3 day suspension, and due to family problems, I have stepped in to try to provide some support to the grandparents who are raising this young man. It is a very difficult situation. I met with a couple of my students and led 2 Why Try groups. My boss did come to observe me today and showed up for one of the groups, which went well. After work, I did my first "home visit" to get a parent to sign a release form that I really need to have, so that was interesting. All in all, I felt really worn out by the end of the day. It's hard not to take these kids' problems home with you. On a happier note, I am one of the few people who make phone calls to parents for positive reasons and I'm making sure I've done that for my kids who are really trying and making improvements this year. It really means a lot for the parents to get a call from the school that is GOOD!

Walter, Cathy, Brent, & I went to go to Hilltop tonight but there must have been an accident or something near here. The traffic headed that way was not moving at all, so we went another direction into a different town and had dinner at Outback, which made me miss my friend, Kelley!!! But, it was really good!! And Walter was eating bread and cheating on his diet like crazy, so I ordered their Chocolate Thunder from Down Under dessert!!!! Yum!!!!! Ha Ha I guess I showed him!!!! Actually, he & Brent ordered it too, so I wasn't the only pig, but so much for the diet, at least until I come back from Houston this weekend.

Well, seriously, my brain is taking the night off, so that's all I've got for now!!

I know what you mean about draining days! I felt like I had one too...but nothing compared to yours. I also know it is really hard to leave the work at work and not be so involved in the kid issues to interfer in your own life. It is tough.
That dessert is yummo! I want chocolate!
Hope you have a relaxing night! Enjoy it!

it is really good to see a teacher so dedicated to her students the way you are, especially for giving praise! I love that.

I am sure parents appreciate getting good phone calls, I know I certainly liked them more.

The desert sounds wonderful.

Good for you for ordering the dessert! A girl's gotta cheat every now and then! Especially when it involves chocolate!

I can't imagine the mental exhaustion of dealing with children like that. I am plenty tired of just dealing with my one child in school. I don't know what I'll do when all 3 of them are in school. sigh...

Thanks for stopping by on your layover yesterday. Come back and visit anytime!

Sounds like you are doing a really good job and making a difference in these kids lives, so even though you are exhausted, I hope you know that there are quite a few people out there who appreciate everything you do. Good for you for making a difference.

Outback is good, but I'm sure not Hilltop. Way to go on the positive phone calls. That is wonderful!

I can't imagine how hard your job must be. Thank you for doing it! And good on you for making positive calls. God knows we could all use some of that.

Yah, I really wouldn't be able to "leave work stuff at work" with the sort of job you have. That's tough.

I really love it when a teacher calls home to praise a kid. It's always like -bracing myself, rolling my eyes, wondrin' what my kid did THIS time- when out of nowhere i get an "he did outstanding on our test today..smartest kid in the class." It feels like I just won an award or something. ha ha

...and this coming from someone that doesn't have any REAL troublemakin' kiddos. I bet these parents are on cloud nine when you make a NICE call! way to go you!

Dawn, your loving positive reinforcement will never be lost on these kids, I am sure. When you go home, go with a heart that knows that you have done all that is humanly possible for these children today.
Hope the Chocolate Thunder was worth every calorie!!!!
