Update from Louisiana

So, it looks like the storm is moving faster than we originally thought and our scary bad weather will be here earlier than 8pm tomorrow, probably more like noon or 2pm. It also looks like the storm may be moving a little west of us, so that is good for us, but not so good if you are further west. If you know me, you'd know that I am pretty neurotic and have a high anxiety level. Walter has been talking me through what the storm will be like and what to do if i'm really scared, like I was during the worst of Katrina. He said earlier that he didn't want me to stress Cameron out (or his 2 friends, Bryce & Bradley who are riding the storm out here), and I asked what should I do/say if I am really scared then. He said, the safest place is in the pantry (which is built under our staircase), so to go in there. I said, how are we all going to fit in there? He said, no, not everyone, just YOU! The kids thought that was pretty funny.

We went to Cathy & Brent's tonight and drank some worm buckets (it's a drink we have out here on the river a lot, incase you're wondering). Cathy's mom is staying with them during the storm, so we got to meet & visit with her. One of the good things (if there are any) about hurricanes is the bonding that goes on between neighbors and even strangers. People really pull together, invite family/friends who have to evacuate to stay in their homes, help out before and after the storm with whatever people need. Cameron's friend, Bradley, lives in a mobile home, so I was happy for him to stay here. His grandparents don't think the storm will be bad, so they stayed in the mobile home. That is a mistake.

I also just got an email alert from our state's notification system that there is a tornado warning in our parish. Yikes! I'm sure there is a lot more of that to come!!

Hurricane thoughts

Walter says that our really bad weather will be here around 8pm Monday night and he estimates that it will be over by midnight. Now, i'm not talking about the heavy winds and rain because that will start tonight and last through probably Tuesday, but the REALLY bad weather that makes you question your sanity in having stayed during the storm. I remember thinking during Hurricane Katrina that I would NEVER stay through another bad storm, but the other alternative of being unable to get home for days is not very attractive either. We also were still living in the condo we were renting during Katrina and it was not as sturdy as our house, nor did we have any type of generator and survived for a week with 1 fan and 1 tv, so I feel pretty confident staying here this time. We are not under a mandatory evacuation - only suggested for low lying homes, which we are not. Walter asked me & Cameron to think about going to my mom's for a couple of days, but we both decided we want to stay here and are comfortable doing that. School/work has already been cancelled Tuesday & Wednesday, but I'm doubting people will have electricity back until closer to next weekend.

There was an article in the Baton Rouge paper today where a couple was filling up sandbags to bring to their house and the reporter asked them why they thought other people weren't out doing the same thing. The lady said, "The LSU game is on! They'll come do that later!" Yeah, priorities are in order here in Louisiana!

I am really thrilled with how our wonderful Governor Bobby Jindal is handling this storm. We learned so much that we were not doing after Katrina, so he has certainly figured out the right role in doing what we should. Things seem so well organized and that is going to make a huge difference later. He has made it clear that if you are in an area that is under a mandatory evacuation and you don't leave...you are ON YOUR OWN! Don't expect people to come help you or rescue you. And yes, he has provided transportation out if you can't afford it or have medical issues preventing you from leaving. No crying that the government wasn't there for you or didn't help you. GET OUT or deal with it. It looks like most people in New Orleans are leaving, and that is good. If you think that the levees there are fixed in any way, shape, or form, you are sadly mistaken. What happened in 2005 during Katrina could easily happen there again, so anyone who stays is a bit crazy, if you ask me.

I will try to take some pictures & videos over the next few days. If our backup generator works as planned, I should be able to get online and post some of them during the storm, so check back and see how well that works out! It is amazing how much support and prayers are coming to me and my Louisiana friends through the friends who live in our computers! We really appreciate it more than we can say!!

Pre-Gustav

Here is a cute picture I have to share from Hurricane Lily in 2002. Walter doctored the scene a little bit and created this shot, mostly to amuse Cameron, who was quite amused! We emailed it to our friends and family to let them know we were doing ok during the storm!

And speaking of storms, New Orleans' mayor called for the evacuation of New Orleans yesterday and called Hurricane Gustav "the mother of all storms." Alrighty then. It does seem to be coming straight at us and there is an air of nervous excitement all around. No matter where you go, you hear people talking to friends and strangers about their plans. "Are y'all leaving?" "Is your area under evacuation?" "Where will y'all go?" I heard this morning that our Walmarts are shutting down as of this morning. I guess their employees need to be making plans and evacuating like everyone else. My next door neighbor is taking pictures of all the rooms in her house incase she needs them for insurance purposes. Not a bad idea. Some of her relatives came by on their way out of state this morning due to their home being in a low lying area and the guy said he already applied with FEMA this morning because he knows he will lose everything. And I am worried about one of my friends who is in an area that is under a mandatory evacuation, and she is not leaving. For those of you who know me in real life, I'm talking about Valarie. She was in danger during Katrina and this storm is going to hit her area harder and I'm very concerned about her. I asked her to come here, but she is staying where she's at.

The wind is starting to pick up here which is our first real sign that this thing is coming. The trees are all swaying and before long will be bending a bit as they sway. An evacuation has been suggested for our area of the river for low lying homes, but we are not low lying and feel safe to stay. None of my neighbors are leaving, so I think it's ok. I do think we will be flooded in due to the roads around us flooding, but we'll be fine here at home. If we do get flooded in, I would worry about my neighbors who are in their 70s and in poor health if their family couldn't get to them, so all in all, we'll stay here and look out for each other. Walter & I have done all of our hurricane supply shopping, which somehow ends up being a huge junk food festival, and now went back today for our final few items:

I have been really impressed with Cameron's maturity in the last few days. He talked to me when our New York trip was still planned to let me know that we would have trouble getting home on Monday due to the storm, and then today, he voluntarily went outside and helped Walter secure the boat and all of the plants & things in the back yard. I hope this is a new stage he is going through! Hurricane Katrina was stressful on us, and i'm guessing he's remembering that.

And while I'm on the subject of cats, my scaredy cat, Nadda, has odd habits that usually involve him leaving treasures for me in his food bowl. I haven't shared any stories lately because he hasn't really done anything, but this morning I recognized a clear pattern. Every morning when I have gone to feed him for the last 4 mornings, I've found my pink pony tail holder in the food bowl. I'm not sure what he's trying to tell me, but he doesn't take it back out and play with it. He leaves it there for me to find. Sometimes I find socks and shoes in there, but not lately.

We went to an Italian restaurant called "The Little Village" with Cathy & Brent tonight. Cathy reasoned that we don't know if we'll be able to eat out next week due to power outages, etc., so we went. We are really starting to eat out too much again.

Ok, well pray for us that Hurricane Gustav will weaken and go easy on us! I'll keep you posted as to how we are doing when I can! I really appreciate all the support and prayers from my blogger friends!

Saturday

It's such a nice day here if you didn't know a hurricane was looming around the corner. We have been picking up things in the yard today and just making sure we're ready to go for the storm. You don't want to leave any "projectiles" out in the yard! Cameron is going to the LSU game with his dad this morning, then I'll pick him up to ride the storm out here with us. He doesn't usually come back until Mondays, but I asked him if he wants to come today or possibly have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday before we can get out to get him (no way to know, really) and he decided to come today. I think he's figured out the backup generator will provide a lot more comfort (and computer) during and after the storm than his dad's house where they will be using candles & flashlights for days. I feel better having him here with me anyway, so I'll go get him when he gets back from the game.

And since I mentioned it, my LSU Tigers are playing their first game today!! Due to the impending evacuation of New Orleans, which will bring on "contraflow" where our interstates will all be going one direction, the game was moved up to 10am. Wow. Hard to tailgate at 8:30 am, but hey, we do what we gotta do. And so far they are winning! Yay!

Walter & I have decided to get back on the Atkins diet once things are back to normal after the storm. He usually wont do it with me, but he says he will this time, which makes it easier for me to stick to the diet when he's doing it too. We are also going to start going to work out at the health club again, or so we say. So, let me know if you're up to trying the Atkins diet and we can have a mini-support group! The diet works SO well if you stick to it 100% (I usually lose 10 lbs in the first 2 weeks) and really helps to have other people to talk to about it. Now, if I could just eat right once I stop dieting!!

My friend, Dena, says that the restaurant we went to for my 1999 birthday was the Acme Oyster House in New Orleans. And the hurricane that we partied until New Orleans was evacuated was Georges. That girl doesn't forget a thing. She also remembered some other details of the birthday trip, but I wont share them and embarrass anyone!!

Are you smarter than my Wizard?

My last post about my dilemma regarding our airline tickets wasn't so much a plea for advice as a chance to see if anyone thinks like Walter the Wizard. I sure don't, so I was just curious. And really it wont be the end of the world if we lose the $300 and can use the other $500 for a credit on airfare if used in the next 12 months, but honestly, we'd love to just have the money back if possible. I told Walter what the policy was: there is a travel advisory in our area on our flight, so we could reschedule the flight within a week without losing any money, but we have nowhere to fly to and no time off from work to go anywhere next week. BUT, if the airline cancels the flight, we can get a full refund, so he said to reschedule another flight for the exact time the hurricane is hitting New Orleans and the airports will shut down and cancel all flights!! I was like....DOH!! Good idea!! So, I rescheduled our flight for Tuesday, September 2nd around 10am lol. Now, if somehow that doesn't work out, we'll just call and cancel and use the $500 credit later, but I really think he has made this happen.

I appreciated all of your suggestions and advice. I do have to address one comment in particular. And that would be Joe. My dear, beloved Joe. I have known Joe for 12+ years and have to alert the public that there is generally a hidden message in his comments and I had to laugh when I read his ideas today. He is asking me in his own little way to tell about my birthday weekend in New Orleans about 10 years ago. I can't remember which birthday, but Walter & I were dating then, so let's say 1999. Did we party like it was 1999? YES!! We had a large group of friends meeting in New Orleans for dinner somewhere (my friend, Dena, my secret blog reader will have to email me the name of the restaurant) and to go hang out in the French Quarter. We got to the hotel to check in and were in a hurry because there were a lot of people waiting for us at the restaurant. Now, i'm not good with details, but Joe is, so maybe he can fill in the blanks or correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like Walter, Joe, myself, and maybe another friend (Tammie?) got to our hotel room to open my gifts quickly and then get to dinner. When we got to the room, someone else was in it! I ended up having to open my gifts in the hall and we had no room at all. I had a piece of that hotel manager for dinner (not literally) and by the time I finished with him, he gave us the room free (and this was a nice hotel) and offered to bring us to the restaurant to make sure we made it on time, but we drove ourselves, giggling all the way. But really, I was mad. I don't mind paying for anything, but I get mad when I have to pay for something that is wrong. So anyway, thanks for the comment & the laugh Joe!

There are evacuations being ordered, including some areas around us, but mostly because they are low lying areas. Our house is up high and we are not in any danger of flooding, even living on the river. The worst we can expect as far as flooding is being trapped at home due to surrounding roads, but I'm ok with that. We have plenty of food, water, and will never lose power if our generator works as planned, so it will be ok. I am betting that we wont have work/school Tuesday or Wednesday, but we'll have to wait and see how the weekend goes.

My sister-in-law, Honey (not her real name - a nickname because all 3 of my sister-in-laws are named Mary...seriously) and her family might be coming from Waveland, Mississippi to ride the storm out with us. She, her husband, and teenage son were 3 of the 4 family members that we couldn't find for days after Hurricane Katrina. I am thankful to this day that we never heard it reported on the news that Waveland was "wiped off the map" until after we knew they were safe. Walter's nieces actually braved the flooded roads and the warnings and went and rescued the 3 of them and their dad, who was with them. We tried to help them, but could not buy gas anywhere to make the drive. Honey & the others didn't stay in their homes during Katrina, but went to a hotel MILES away from the beach to ride out the storm. A 35 foot wall of water sucked the houses off their slabs and flooded the city for miles. They were in a 2 story Holiday Inn and thought the 150 people there would have to go on the roof during the storm (150mph winds) to escape the flooding water that was almost COVERING the hotel, but fortunately, they didn't have to. A tornado destroyed all of their cars in the parking lot, as if they would have survived the floods anyway. So yeah, if they want to LEAVE Waveland this time, I welcome them in our house! Fortunately, she is boarding her THREE Bassett Hounds & ONE Blood Hound! I can imagine how much my cats would enjoy their company!

Work was crazy, buzy again today. I met with some kids I hadn't gotten to yet and got my schedule all worked out. I also did some planning with my co-worker for our Why Try groups that we will start next week. I'm excited about that!

As previously mentioned, I grew up with Mover Dave of the Imagination Movers! I've known him since I was probably 12 years old and i'm so proud of how far they've come in such a short time. Something you might find interesting, some of the Imagination Movers lost their homes in Hurricane Katrina! Anywho, Mover Dave's mom sent this link to my mom - the Imagination Movers were on the news talking about their Disney show. Put on your thinking cap...

We have a dilemma over our airline tickets to New York, and of course, Walter the Wizard came up with a plan that may just be the best alternative. Leave me a comment and tell me what you would do and I'll tell you tonight what we decided. Here are the details:

We bought 2 roundtrip tickets from New Orleans to Buffalo for $814 that are non-refundable. Our flight was scheduled for Friday (29th)and there is no other time in the next 7 days that we could go on a trip, so rescheudling didn't seem to be an option. If you don't take the flight, there is a $150 fee per ticket ($300 total) if you reschedule and fly within 7 days of the original flight date. If there is a travel advisory issued for the date of your flight, you can reschedule the flight with no fee if you reschedule and fly within 7 days of the original flight date. If your flight is cancelled, you can get a full refund on the ticket. An advisory was issued today for the New Orleans airport for Thursday, August 28th - Tuesday, September 2nd, but no flights have been cancelled at this point. I would personally like to have the full refund!

Preparedness

Gustav is knocking at our door and we are being told to be prepared. Walter & I are actually more prepared than we've ever been and I'm glad. We have never owned a generator of any sort. We made it through Katrina with no electricity for a week, with only 1 fan and 1 tv. When we built our house, we installed a backup generator that runs on propane and will run most of the lights in the house, refrigerator, freezer, etc. It will not run the air conditioner, but we bought 3 small window units that we can put in different rooms if needed. We have gone and bought cases of bottled water, batteries (for what, i'm not sure), filled up our cars with gas, bought some canned food, although we will be able to cook on the stove or bbq, and should even have internet access, if we hooked everything up right. So, now we just wait. It is my understanding that busses are beginning to bring people from New Orleans to shelters north of Baton Rouge today/tomorrow. Skeery.

Tonight is STEAK NIGHT!!! For my new readers, a restaurant near my house, Hilltop, has the best steak ever and they have a steak special on Thursday nights. Walter & I go nearly every Thursday night with our neighbors/friends, Cathy & Brent. I am excited to go tonight because this was not in our plans! Cathy & Brent were supposed to leave for New York this morning, so we were skipping it and would have been joining them in New York tomorrow. Steak night isn't as exciting as going to New York, but I don't have to fly there and it is really pretty darn good!!

My shirts that I ordered with my birthday gift certificates from Land's End came today! They took a little longer than I thought because I never actually SUBMITTED the order online!! The biggest part of placing an order is actually PAYING for the stuff!! I realized what I'd done and went back and placed the order and it got here really fast! My sista, Kimi, always likes to see my new shirts, so here they are!

I bought a white & a beige shirt like this to wear under other shirts & blouses when it's cooler.

Questions & Comments:

Chelle asked if we could postpone the New York trip and go later this year. I would think so since Brent's boss owns the house. He seems to let them use it whenever they want, so maybe we can go some other time.

Lula asked if I am safe re: Gustav, and I would have to say yes. We don't ever get evacuated from our area, although if there was an evacuation order, I would surely go. I don't think Walter would want to, but if I whined enough, I know he would. I usually start to worry that we should have left during a storm, but our house is safe and I think we'll be fine here. We do live on a river, but that has not caused any flooding or problems in the past. Our house is up on a hill from the water, but there are many low lying homes that will flood in our area. And thanks for asking!

And for Joe...my beloved friend in real life, Joe. Thank you for clarifying that Walter is not a drug dealer or something. I laughed at your comment, but then realized I really didn't know what he gave you! I remember the story and how bad your head was hurting, and it seems like you kept taking that afterwards cause it worked so well. And yes, I remember the other bad story that weekend. I'm not sure I could ever forget! That's a post for another year! LOL

Name it something normal and maybe it will go away

Gustav - why would you even name a storm something stupid like that? With a ridiculous name like that, this storm is likely to come after us with a vengeance just for naming it that! According to Wikipedia, (which I might add is NOT an actual real source, but one that people like me & you put information into), Gustav means "staff of the Gods." What happened to naming storms things like Robert and Julie?

I have to say it is really cool, and a bit scary, how serious our wonderful Governor Bobby Jindal is taking this storm. Before Katrina, nobody really did anything when hurricanes were looming, and we all learned some serious lessons about that. However, the storm wasn't the real problem. Most people weathered that (no pun intended) just fine, at least in New Orleans. It was when the levees broke that things fell apart. Mississippi was a different story, but I'm not really talking about Mississippi's state of preparedness right now. And it is important to be proactive about these things, and Bobby Jindal is. And I love him.

I can recall hurricanes where we didn't do a thing to prepare and then just waited to ride it out. We've had so many false alarms, that you really had to scream and yell for anyone to get nervous or even leave home during a hurricane. I remember one hurricane that hit here about 10 years ago, can't even remember the name. Some of my real life blogger friends probably remember this and were probably even there too! It was before Walter & I were dating, but were both with a large group of friends partying out of town at a hotel/bar. There was news of a hurricane, but that didn't phase us at all!! News reports were on telling people to be prepared. What did we do? We kept on partying all weekend! When it was time to go home, we were barely ahead of the storm. Then we found out that New Orleans was being EVACUATED!! Yikes! And people with us were from New Orleans and couldn't go home, so Walter brought some of them home with him for a couple of days and some went home with me. And now, here I sit FIVE DAYS before a hurricane could possibly come this way and I'll be honest, i'm worried! I'm not so worried about myself, my family, my house, etc. I just don't know how we could survive the damage caused by Katrina & Rita in our state (and others) again, especially since there is still so much suffering going on. And do you think our levees are somehow fixed now? Ha Ha. No, i'm sure they aren't, but luckily (or unluckily) not many people live in the areas now that flooded so bad. And that is because they lost EVERYTHING and can't live there anymore. So yeah, it's a viscious cycle that we don't need to repeat.

And yes. We are cancelling our trip to New York! We will likely lose $300 for cancelling the tickets unless the area is put under a hurricane warning before our flight Friday morning, but that's ok. They will credit the rest toward another flight at a future date. And there is a bright side! Cathy & Brent will be in town for STEAK NIGHT tomorrow night!! Yay!!

Ok. Enough of that. Today was a very hectic day at work. I had several meetings that took up most of my time, and only had time to meet with 1 student. I did get permission slips sent out for 4 Why Try groups that I am going to do. My co-worker has been trained in the program and will co-lead 2 groups with me, then I will do 2 on my own. I'm excited about getting those started and see how they work out!

Dear Gustav...

You know, it's just something we deal with here - hurricanes. I have lived through them for 40 years, most of them nothing but some real bad rain & wind, some nothing at all after we went through a lot of effort to prepare, some pretty darn bad and scary, and then came Katrina. I don't know that I can ever casually sit through another hurricane after what went on during and after Katrina. And now here is Gustav. Please leave! Many of the kids in our school system lived through Katrina...through the bad stuff you saw on tv...and evacuated to our towns and many are still here. And when they hear rain, they get upset, so imagine when they hear a hurricane is coming, they remember and panic. And so do I. My in-laws lost 7 homes in Waveland, Mississippi and suffered a major lifestyle change. One of those homes was one that we co-owned. After the storm, we couldn't find 4 family members for several days and when we found them, we learned that they'd survived a hurricane, tornado, and water up to the 2nd floor of the 2 story hotel they were at. Walter & I were unable to help search for them because we could not find gas to get to them, and we went to every gas station for miles until we realized that we would be left on the side of the road if we continued. My mom and step-dad were driving home from a trip and got caught in miles and miles of traffic with no options of buying gas, ran out of gas on the interstate and 2 angels came by in an old beat up pickup truck and happened to have gas in a can in the back of the truck and were willing to share a couple of gallons. I will never think about an approaching hurricane the same. Will I still have a hurricane party? Sure. That's just how we roll. But I will never underestimate the power of nature. Do you know that in Waveland, Mississippi, where Katrina made a direct hit, that a 35 foot wall of water sucked every house for miles into the gulf? Seriously. There was nothing left but slabs and broken trees. And 3 years later, much of the area still looks the same. And yeah, Friday is the anniversary of Katrina. Ok, sorry about the trip down memory lane, but Gustav, please, just go away.

I've had several comments that say going on the trip would avoid the storm, and while that's true, what I learned from Katrina is that I may not be able to fly home on Monday. And assume the airline flies me to another airport, I may not be able to get a rental car or find gas to put in one. Then my pets are home alone (they can manage with extra food & water for a long weekend), and my son comes home on Monday. Now, i'm sure his dad would keep him longer, if needed (he used to REFUSE to keep him any extra time, imagine that), but I don't want to put myself in a situation where I can't get home and also miss time with Cameron for a vacation. So, while Brent & Cathy are still deciding what to do, I know I can't go after looking at the radar this morning. Landfall is expected just a few hours before we are scheduled to fly home Monday morning, and I don't want to fly on a GOOD day, much less like this, so unofficially (meaning the rest don't know it yet!), Walter & I aren't going.

We are going to dinner with Brent & Cathy tonight to discuss our New York plans for Labor Day weekend! However, we did not have any intentions of inviting GUSTAV, and it looks like he may interfere with our trip!!!

Incase you can't tell where I am on the map, just look RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT!!! Yikes!! Now, I'll just go ahead and say that i'm not going to cry if I don't have to fly on that plane, but I will cry if our tickets are non-refundable!!! But it looks like we could get a credit to fly somewhere else within a year if we had to cancel now. I'll admit, I have been quite nervous about the flying part, being that the only time i've ever flown was when I was 7 years old. I am neurotic enough to have already given my sister instructions (she is my beneficiary on my life insurance policies for my children) and well, I really am worried about this flying thing! And then I get an email from CNN breaking news tonight: Communications problems at an FAA facility that processes flight plans are causing flight delays at airports across the U.S. Alrighty then. 3 days before I am supposed to get on a plane! I'm just sayin...

Work was busy yesterday, then I had my supervision meeting yesterday afternoon. We had group supervision with my friends, Courtney & Christine, so that was fun and different! I got home around 6pm and my step-son, Sean, brought his girlfriend, Kristen over to meet us and to show us his new car. It's actually a 1994 Mitsubishi Miata (sp) and get this....it's a bright red convertible just like my new Mustang!!! It's a cute car and I hope it holds up for him. He has recently gotten a good job as a computer technician/networker, so we're really crossing our fingers and praying that this works out for him. He's a great employee; he just is habitually late and usually loses jobs because of it. And his girlfriend is nice. We liked her.

Cameron is gone to his dad's this week, so that is always an adjustment for me. You'd think after 12 years, it would seem normal, but it's different. It's ok with me now that he likes going over there, but there were step-mother issues for several years that created serious problems, but things have been good for awhile now.

My brother, Kenny, posted some new pictures of my cute little niece, Daphne. Here you can see her with the giant Elmo her favorite aunt (yes, that would be me) gave her for her first birthday. Now, while I would like to take credit for the idea, Elmo was on Daphne's Amazon.com wishlist (who knew she was so smart!) and I just bought it, but still, it's her favorite toy. Kenny said that in the first picture, Daphne was bringing Elmo to take a bath with her and that when he reads books to Daphne, she sits on one knee and wants Elmo on his other knee!

Sunday

Walter came home around 4pm from his "brothers weekend" in Mississippi. I sent my camera with him and like a good husband, he took some pictures!! They caught/cooked fish yesterday and checked their crab traps today and boiled crabs for lunch. Boiled crabs are one of my favorite things to eat and yes, you know he loves me, because he brought some home for me! Yay!! That will be my after dinner snack!

I haven't done much today. I took Cameron & Bryce to Taco Bell for lunch today - their choice! It's amazing to me that they'll pass up some really good eating for Taco Bell! Tropical storm Fay is passing through our area for a visit. It's been raining since I got up this morning and I guess that is what I can expect for the whole day! I don't mind though. It is pretty relaxing to sit and listen to the rain, especially on the metal roof. I am cooking the cajun crawfish casserole AGAIN tonight, but using shrimp instead of crawfish. Walter will love this casserole and it came out SO good, so I decided to make it again and show off my great cooking skills, since he missed it Friday night!

After having so much fun with my post last night, I couldn't help but "yearbook" my sister and brother-in-law and email them the pictures! Did they think it was as funny as I did? Probably not, but I got a good chuckle out of it!!

Questions & Comments:

MBKimmy asked if JP was older than Elizabeth - no, I sometimes confuse people because I call JP my older son, but that is just to distinguish him from my younger son, Cameron. Elizabeth was born 2 years before JP. Also, she asked if Elizabeth has said she had a good life - yes. She is very different from her adoptive parents. They are very quiet, sort of non-social people and Elizabeth's personality is just like mine - outgoing, loud, center of attention kind of girl. They have been very good to her and she was raised in a happy, stable, loving home. I think meeting me and my family helped her to see "the other side" and it's a good fit for her. Here is a picture of both of our families during Christmas the year after we met.
