Monday

I really had fun with the Blog Around the World post and am excited to see where we go next! I added a bunch of blogs to my blog roll to have a chance to read and get to know some new people. I usually keep the ones who comment back & forth and then slowly lose the others, but hopefully, I will meet and keep some new friends! I am a little disapointed that over 50 people visited my blog, but less than half left a comment. That's the point people!! Leave a comment so the people you visit can visit you!

Work was good today. I am trying to put together 2 "Why Try" groups and have been getting names from teachers of students that might benefit from the program. It is a program to help kids overcome their challenges and improve their outcomes in the areas of truancy, behavior, and academics. If I sound like i'm reading that straight off of the WhyTry.org website, it's because I am! I have never actually done a Why Try group, but one of my co-workers has been trained in it and is doing some groups on the west side with me, so I am going to just do what she does after she does it with me! I am excited to learn more about it because it does seem to be an effective program.

Cameron is home from his dad's, and as I thought, he's still pretty ticked off at me over the computer restrictions! I am willing to talk about it and what he can do to have more freedom with the computer, such as being nice when people talk to him, actually talking to people, using words instead of grunts when asked to do something, etc. The current rule is no computer until after 8. He came in from school and pouted awhile, told me how mad he is, and when Bryce came over, he said he wanted to go to Bryce's to do his homework. I said that is fine as long as he shows me what he worked on when he gets back. As they were going out the door, I said, "what time will you be home??" He said, "AFTER 8!" LOL...I was too tickled to argue and let him go. I called his dad to see what they worked out and I will talk to Cameron and see what we can come up with. His dad did make him do homework at a set time every night, which is going to help Cameron keep up with everything.

Here are some pictures of the completed screen porch project now that all of the tools are put away:

Our friend, Brent, works for a demolition company and had asked Walter if he wanted some lights from an old building to put on our boat slip. I think he is still waiting to get one more, then will put them up. Walter cleaned them up real good and they should look nice!

Here are some pictures of the pier with the swing, dock box (for the swing cushion), and bench.

And this is a project that Walter & our neighbor, Leon are working on...to catch the racoon(s) that keep pooping on our piers at night! I have not gone to see the poop, but apparently, it is a daily problem!

These are the lights that Walter put on the pier. They are really cool looking at night and light the place up nicely!

And this is just a cool view of the river from our pier. I love the way the lights look up & down the river.

That's all for tonight! I hope you all have a great night!

I love the porch! That looks so good. I know you guys will get a lot of use out of it.

Keep me posted on the Why Try group. I'm going to have to live my school social work through you now!

And I took your idea and also signed up for the blog around the world, so we'll see how that goes! I feel a little silly since we just moved here, but I guess that would give it a different perspective.

I miss you!

Wow - how beautiful is that backyard scene?

It sounds like you have quite a challenging job. Good luck with the motivational group. And with your youngster on the computer!

Is your pool still green? We had alkalinity issues - threw in a ton of the stuff, shocked the daylights out of it, and vwah-lah! Perty pool. (LOVE it!)

That is an awesome porch.

I would love to have that swing by the water, to cool.

Your porch looks fantastic! About the comment versus number of visit ratio you mentioned, It's always that way. I don't know why people don't leave comments, but half is a pretty good. We will be visiting LA again as we rotate through the states! Thanks for playing along!

I'm so glad you added me to your blog roll. I've added you to mine also! I think the rules you have set for Cameron are good. Kids need to enjoy the outdoors more and not be glued to the t.v. or computer so much. I love your new porch!! You will really get lots of enjoyment from it!

I just love your dock!! I could so see myself lounging out there with a frosty margarita in one hand and a good book in the other.

Gorgeous - the screened porch and you have a pier! Your place looks quite tranquil!

Tell Mr Wizard and Leon to bait the trap with either Corn Mash Whiskey on cotton balls (believe it or not coons are attracted to Corn Mash) or a can of sardines. Also, don't clean any fish on the dock. My dad learned the hard way at his place since that smell draws them.

The porch looks awesome! What a great looking house.

So your last post has me dying to try beignets. I am on the hunt for a southern pastry shop that ships so I can try fresh ones.

Those look amazing. And in my opinion, anything that goes well with coffee is just that much better!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Hi there, New Bloggy Friend! I'll add you to my Blog Roll, too! I'm having so much fun Blogging Around the World! As for raccoons, they are pesky critters, aren't they? I have to say, though, you've got an ADORABLE kitty cat! Oh, and BTW, I *tagged* you for a *meme*. Can't wait to read what you have to say! :)

Hi! I didn't have time to come by yesterday on our trip around the world, but I'm glad I stopped by today. I loved your porch and back yard pictures. Living on a river. How wonderfully relaxing -- just thinking about it!

(I also enjoyed hearing all about Louisiana!)

Hey there--I almost *tagged* you for the one-word *meme*, but noticed that Veggie Mom got there first! You should do it--I just posted mine, and it's pretty funny, if I do say so myself!

50 people stopping by still sounds great!! Sorry they didn't all leave comments. Sometimes we just forget how nice it is to get the comments. Great place!!!

That is gorgeous! Wow, your life is filled with challenges, and you have not been afraid to push your sleeves up and dig in. Way to go! Looks like you are finding a balance by creating peaceful spaces in your world--hope you are finding time to recharge there, too.

Oh, I love your screened porch!!!

Did that come with the house or did you build it yourself? Do you have a post that describes the materials you used? I think I see screen material parallel to your house. Is that corrugated steel or plastic on the side?

question, questions, questions!!!
