It's over!!

Gustav has come and gone, leaving us with a couple more days of rainy weather in the forecast. We are fine here, just a lot of cleaning up to do in the yard and waiting days or weeks for the power to come back on. We have our backup generator, so we have the use of all of our lights, fridge, freezer, computers, tv, etc. Really, everything but our air conditioner, but we have some small window units hooked up to keep the house cool. This generator is the best investment we've bought based on how well it worked when we really needed it. It is really not noticeable that we don't have electricity, and when it might take a week or more to come back on, this is priceless. We went through Hurricane Katrina with 1 fan and 1 small black & white tv for over a week, so this has been nice.

The news is saying that the damage is the worst they've ever seen in Baton Rouge & surrounding areas. We have seen a few houses with major damage in our area and feel fortunate that we escaped any damage. There are curfews in effect from 8pm until dawn, so hopefully people will heed that warning and stay inside.

I too had stronger winds than in Katrina!

I heard that BR got hit pretty bad- thank God, I only lost some siding and shingles, and a couple of trees but they fell away from the house!

We have one small generator and the window AC and TV and computer is up!

Glad to hear yall are OK and the wrost is over...

Thank God for bringing us through another one!

I'm sooo glad that y'all are okay! I was getting worried about y'all, it looked bad in your area on the radar! It got pretty windy here, but we haven't lost power! Yay!

I loved watching your "live" video. It looked liked y'all had some really strong winds there!

You are safe! That is the most important. My sister, aunt, and I were talking about being glad we do not live in Hurricane Country, until I reminded them we do live in Earthquake country. For you today, though I am happy to see that you made it through.

Glad to hear from you Dawn. We are currently in the eye and waiting for the other end to get here. It is eerily quiet and barely raining. We have our generator going too. It is truly a blessing that this storm decreased in strength before landfall. It could have been much worse.

I'm glad that you are safe and spared by the nastiness of Gustav. I know some people weren't as fortunate. You did good being prepared.

I am so glad you are safe, that your generator is working, that you have internet service, and that you got your tickets refunded! Yea!

I'm sooo glad you are ok! I've been thinking about you. Please send some rain to Dallas. We could totally use it! :)

Visiting from Blog Around the World...

Glad to hear that you weathered Gustav with few issues. Aren't generators wonderful? We got ours a few years ago after a really bad ice storm...have only used it a few times, but those few times have been well worth it!
