What a mess! There is so much damage all throughout the state. I feel really fortunate that we are safe and didn't have any damage here. Our generator is working fine, but the house is hot, especially upstairs, because we can't use the window units when it's raining outside. The windows in our bedrooms are unusually shaped, so Walter had to use plywood around the window units to make them fit into the windows, but rain can come in too. Downstairs we were able to use the window units in the kitchen & the office to try to cool off the bottom floor. Walter & I slept on the sofas last night and the boys were happy to use several fans in the bedroom. This morning, the rain and wind has stopped, so I opened all of the windows upstairs. Hopefully, that will cool things off. I am expecting my mom & step-dad to come stay here as well as Walter's son, Sean & his girlfriend if they do not have power at their homes before long, so I am hoping we can have cool places for everyone to stay.
There was a surge of water in the rivers as predicted, but since we are up so high, that wasn't a problem for us. Our dock is underwater, but that isn't a big deal. I'm sure many houses in our area are about to get water in them, if they haven't already. Here is Walter out on our dock taking his lights off before they go underwater.

During Katrina, we lived in a condo down the street while we were building our house. We lived there until a year ago, when we were finally able to move into our house. We drove by the condo yesterday, and the chimney was ripped off the roof and there is a large, gaping hole in the roof!! I hope nobody lives there now and I'm glad we don't! I'm sure the place is full of water! Here is a picture of the condos with all of the boat house roofs ripped off on one side. Half of them are laying in the street on the other side! You can also see where 2 of the chimneys are laying on top of the roof. Our condo was on the other side, but the same thing happened.

Walter went to work this morning, but his plant is out of power, water, etc., so he came home and will go back when there is something he can do. The electric companies are saying there may be no power for weeks, so who knows when we will all be able to get back to school and work.

I am so glad ya'll are safe. I was thinking about everyone this past weekend. We were gone most of the weekend but I was trying to say up to date on what was happening. I got a couple text msgs over the weekend from other people and was finally relieved when I got one last night saying the worst had passed.
Read your comment on someone's blog, Dawn, and am so relieved you and your family are ok. It's eerie, your story about the condo you lived in before you moved into your new home. Stay well, Dawn! Petra
I'm so glad that you guys made it out of the storm okay. I've been thinking about you! I'm glad you have the generator so I can keep posted on everything! :-)
Miss you!
Found you at Blogstalker...I am so glad your family and you are safe. My husband and I helped in Pearlington after Katrina...Louisiana is a beautiful state!
Wow, I'm so glad you are ok. That is crazy about those condos!
I am glad yall are safe and didnt have much damage.
Good luck in this week. Heres hoping the power doesn't stay off that long.
Wow! I can't believe the power of water and wind. I am thankful you are ok. Please continue to keep us posted and stay safe. It's still dangerous even with the storm's passing. Thanks for stopping by and commenting in CA. Wish we could treat ya'll to a burger and fries or some AC.
Dawn - we're hearing up here that it will be three weeks before you guys have power again. I'm hoping that's an overstatement. Good news is that Wayne saw utility trucks at a truck stop this morning on his route in Tallulah. Wayne said they were headed your way. Good luck! We just got power back this morning, too. We were without for nearly 12 hours. I can't imagine what you're going through, but hoping it will all be over soon!!
Glad you made it through OK! Hoping everyone in LA comes out of this one better than Katrina!!
So glad you are safe ... hope that clean up goes well and the electric is back on soon!
Hi Dawn,
Thank the Good Lord you and your family is safe, and that you didn't have any damage. And it's nice to read how people pull together in emergencies and help each other.
I read all your updates below, and you did an awesome job of keeping your friends informed. Thank goodness you have a generator to at least cool the downstairs and keep things running.
Take care, and hope the power doesn't take too long.
Hugs and prayers,
Renie
Glad Gustav didn't getcha!
It won't quit RAINING here!!! Ugh!! We're under flash flood and tornado watches.
People in the shelters are complaining that the blankets aren't soft enough. Can you believe that?!?!
You are so fortunate, really glad that you got through this with minimal damage and so glad you don't live in that condo anymore!
Again, I am so happy that you are safe and sound with no damages. That is truly a wonderful thing.
That's crazy about those chimneys. Looks like it's a good thing you have your house! Let us know when the power comes back on!
