Sunday afternoon

We didn't end up going to the state fair yesterday because the boys decided they didn't want to go. I say boys, but I mean Cameron, because I hadn't seen Bryce in weeks until last night when he came over. It's sad to say, but I don't think his mom is doing well again. He missed a week of school recently, for no apparent reason that I could see, and is late for school so often that a letter from the juvenile department came here for him. He's still registered in school as living with me, and I'm guessing that will stay like that because nobody seems to care that the school has the wrong phone number and address for his mom. I tell them when they call, but I know that they can't change it without her telling them. I wish he was living here, because at least he would be going to school and doing well. Cameron says that they have a laptop at Bryce's house now, so my guess is that's why he isn't leaving the house now and is probably staying up all night using it too. There are some things I have to let go of and unless his mother asks me for help or advice, it really isn't my business anymore. Poor kid. But anyway, we didn't go to the fair, so Walter & I went out to dinner and then ran some errands. We went by Walmart to see what was on sale from Halloween and we bought a lot of decorations for our "haunted garage" next year! Walter really goes all out with that sort of thing and I know he's been wanting to do it, but hasn't had time since we moved into the house last year. I also got a frozen daiquiri and enjoyed it immensely!!

I woke up with a sore throat this morning, so I've been taking it pretty easy. I spent the day doing laundry & catching up on my documentation for work. I have been too busy at work to get everything done, plus have about 10 new referrals for new kids to see due to suspensions. I don't mind doing some stuff at home, but it's starting to look like a pattern!! My co-worker had her baby yesterday, so I am taking on 6 of her students too, so it doesn't look like things will slow down any time soon!! She had a baby girl and wont be back at work until the end of January.

Questions & Comments:
Rhondalue asked me what age kids I usually work with. It depends on my school assignments, but this year my kids are pre-k through 6th grade. She also asked how the college students didn't notice our stink bombs!!! We ordered some on Ebay and apparently they weren't very stinky!!! We sure got some good laughs out of it though!! And she also asked (gotta love a good question asker!!) where I got the Spider Woman costume that was in the pictures. I am pretty sure it was at a costume/party type of store. We were having a party that year, so I went and bought something cute!!

My real life friend, Chelle, asked me what kind of candy I bought for Halloween. First, let me say that you should all go check out Chelle's page! She is an incredible Louisiana lady and I am honored to have been friends with her for over 10 years. Actually, I've lost count, but I'm sure it's more than 10!! And she said she buys candy that she doesn't like so that she doesn't eat it before Halloween. Personally, I have the opposite theory. I buy stuff that I do like so that I can eat it before and after Halloween!!!! And no, that is not a good thing!!! I bought the big bags at Walmart of mixed things - Snickers, M&Ms, Hershey bars, Milky Ways, Smarties, etc. In all, I bought 6 bags and probably had 1/2 bag left when we were finished.

Another real life friend, Kimi, who doesn't have a blog, but should, asked why it costs $20 for JP to call me for 20 minutes and only costs $3 for him to call my sister. It is because she is in Houston and there are no long distance costs associated with the calls. I'm not sure why he never told me that before because he could have called when I was there visiting! He can't call cell phones, but he could call me at Donna's house or maybe the hotel.

Please leave me a comment so that I can come visit your page too!!! I love meeting new people!

Dawn, since when did Walmart start selling daiquiri's? Is that a "south" Louisiana thing?! Ha, ha! Also, have you thought about buying the prepaid calling cards for JP to call home? I know you can pick those up at Walmart when you buy your daiquiri!

BTW, where are you with the Twilight Series? What book are you on?

Hi Dawn,

Your job with these kids must give you so much self satisfaction.

Can't believe you guys are shopping for next Halloween already.

I had a sore throat about two weeks ago, which then developed into laryngitis, which is just now easing up. My friends said I sounded "sexy" with the laryngitis. LOL. But I'm glad it's just about gone.

Hope your throat is feeling better. Have a great Monday.

Hugs,

Renie

Man! As if the holidays aren't crazy enough it sounds like you're gonna have tons of things to keep you hopping. I know the next months will seem like there is no end. Then, poof! Your co-worker will return from maternity leave and all will return to "normal" whatever that is. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers. Hang in there and try to remember to breathe.

That's a sad situation about Bryce and his home life. I'm so thankful he has you and Walter to turn to. I really hope his mother will get her act together soon. She's not helping her son in any way. I hate that we see so much of this these days. You're right though, you can't let all of this be your burdon right now. She has to want to help herself. You have so much on your plate already.

Thanks for the sweet things you said. I cherish every day of our friendship. I'm so glad we connected so many years ago. I have to laugh about the candy issue. I did stick to my guns about buying candy I don't like to give out for Halloween, BUT I did go yesterday and buy chocolate yesterday. You know how us women are, we just HAVE to have our chocolate fix. Moderation is the key for me.

Hope you're not having to do too much of that extra work at home. I'm sure after a while that can get overwhelming.

Have a good Monday.

I hope you feel better and get a litte rest. Sounds like you have a lot on your pate at work. How sad for Bryce...did he live with you?

Hope that your throat clears up soon and you don't get too sick. Don't overwork yourself.

I hear ya about the Halloween candy. I bought 2 big mixed bags as well. Einstein and I ate most of it before Halloween even got here. His paretns gave us regular size Snickers bars because they weren't going to be in town for Halloween after all. So, we were able to hand that out!

Also, work can so easily over take our lives...good luck with not letting it over take home life too much! :-) You can only do what you are meant to do! Don't do too much! That is what I always try to remember...but I don't follow it too well!

Thanks for visiting me the other day! I just pulled up your profile and was hooked by your book selection: John Grisham or Danielle Steele. I am SO with you!

I will be thinking of you and your son in this very trying time.
