Tuesday

I did my good deed for the day early this morning. For the third morning in a row, while i'm sitting in my favorite place - my living room chair by my picture window with my laptop - a bird came zooming across the yard and into the window! I am scared of birds, but can't stand the thought of living creatures suffering, so I always go out to see if there is anything I can do, but generally I find that the bird died instantly of a broken neck. The first day, it was a pretty little black & yellow bird and I brought it inside and waited to see if it would show any signs of life, but it became clear that the bird was not going to move. Yesterday, it was a female red bird and she never moved again. So, this morning, I'm playing Word Twist on Facebook, which is a super cool game, and I hear a bird slam into the window. I went outside to find several cats watching a little bird who was alive, but quite stunned, so I picked it up and walked over to show my neighbors who were sitting outside with their visiting in-laws. It was another pretty little black & yellow bird. It was moving a little, but seemed pretty stunned, so Raymond, Leon's brother-in-law, said he would take it home to his son to nurse it back to health. After about 10 minutes of talking and holding the little bird, it flew away!! Yay!! And Raymond says I should stop using Windex on the windows!

Speaking of Raymond, he is one of the sweetest people I have ever known and I really enjoy when he & his wife visit next door. He is in his 80's and still thinks he is 40. He climbs over the rails on the deck instead of walking around and scares me to death sometimes!! He & his wife had a beautiful home in Chalmette that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. They stayed next door for months after the storm and eventually rented their son's home in Slidell. It is so sad to me because they had reached a place in life where they could retire in comfort and now have lost everything with no real means to rebuild. The insurance they had didn't cover the cost of rebuilding the house and they did not have flood insurance. So many people were affected by the storms and many are still feeling the effects 3 years later. And it's hurricane season again.

I spent an hour in the pool this morning and just floated around and read my book. I can't even tell you how relaxing that is for me. Walter is working on building me a floating table so I can have somewhere to put my cell phone, book, and a drink. After I came in, me & my 2 cats took a longgggg nap, which is something I don't do very often. I guess the sun wears me out!

Walter is going to a meeting after work, so Cameron & I are just hanging out at the house. I finished off the left-over gumbo for dinner. Yum! And no cooking! That is a lucky break for all of us!
